Room 3 - 2018 - 2019

Today, we had 2 nursing students come in to present to us about healthy eating.  We learned about the food groups and how to keep our  bodies healthy and energized. This presentation tied in great to the Healthy Food Challenge happening at our school. Students earning points for having healthy food from the food groups for their snack and lunch! The class the with the most points will earn a prize! Ask your child to help pack their lunches with  healthy foods that they learned about today!

  Today, we had our first Rocks and Rings lesson! We learned important vocabulary such as a rock, broom and house. We also learned the proper rock throwing stance and how  to keep score. We played 3 close games and had tons of fun!

Today, we looked at how animals will begin to prepare for winter during the fall. We learned there are 3 important ways that animals prepare for the harshness of winter, migrate, hibernate, or adapt. Geese migrate and fly south for the winter. Bears gorge on food on food in fall then hibernate for winter. Squirrels adapt to the winter by burying food in fall that they will dig up in winter when food supply is low. Ask you child about other animals they learned about today!

Today we are grateful to Ms. Howard for organizing a firefighter to come to visit us!! Did you know there are 1500 firefighters in Calgary keeping us safe? We are so lucky to have so many brave people keeping us safe.

On Tuesday, we have a photographer coming in to take photos of students using the Montessori materials. The consent form will be coming home on Monday and NEEDS to be returned Tuesday if your child is interested in being famous!!! These photos will be used on the CBE website to promote the Montessori programs.

Next week, we will begin "Rocks and Rings" in the gym where we will develop the  skills for curling. Please wear comfortable clothes on our days: Wednesday, December  28 Tuesday, December 4 Thursday December 6 On December 18th,  we will be going Curling!

Wednesday, we did the Montessori  First Great Lesson. Students were awed as we explored how the solar system and Earth came to be. Most exciting was our volcano demonstration! In connection to the First Great Lesson  and our upcoming exploration of liquids in Science, we discussed the 3 states of matter, solid, liquid and gas. We charted some examples from nature for all 3.
