Today we are grateful to Ms. Howard for organizing a firefighter to come to visit us!! Did you know there are 1500 firefighters in Calgary keeping us safe? We are so lucky to have so many brave people keeping us safe.
We are looking forward to the start of a new school year. School begins at 9:10 am on Tuesday, September 4. Ms. McCullough and Mrs. Taylor will be outside Door 1 to meet the children. The schoolyard is supervised 15 minutes before the bell. What to Bring - backpack that can easily fit a picture book and their lunch kit - lunch kit with a healthy lunch and a few snacks - indoor running shoes - water bottle - if applicable, any medication that they require along with completed forms. https://www.cbe.ab.ca/FormsManuals/Student-Health-Plan.pdf Many parents find it helpful to label their child's personal belongings to help get them back if they get lost. School Day The school day includes a lunch and afternoon recess. Grade 1 students are often excited to have 2 recesses! If your child is a bit nervous about finding someone to play with, reassure them that there are lots of children who will be looking for a friend to play with and that we are more than happy to help ...
We had so much fun today using our bug research to create a story! We read "Diary of a Worm" and "Diary of a Spider". These stories were creative but also full of facts. Our stories will include many of the facts from our research but also be creative as diary entries in a day in the life of our bug.
What a fun day meeting our pen pals! We braved that rain (thank you parents for dressing your children so well for it!) We had a great time visiting with our pen pals, sketching our pen pal, using a Venn diagram to compare and contrast ourselves and a little time to play! We then venture back to class and warmed up with some tea! I hope students enjoyed themselves! Huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteer for making our trip such a success!
