Our Big Surprise


 Today, we talked about some winter celebrations,
Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa,
Three Kings Day, New Years Day,
Chinese New Year.
If you have any other celebrations you celebrate in the winter season, we would love to have your child share 
their celebration and traditions with the class! 
Mrs. Taylor and I celebrate Christmas and we wanted
to get the class a gift.
With how much students enjoyed taking care of the gerbils in years past, we thought this would be a great gift
in helping teach responsibility and compassion.
Today, the students got their "surprise".
Crowfoot Petland came in with a variety of pets,
a bunny, guinea pig, hedgehog, 
budgie, lizard, turtle....
and lastly our new class pets, two adorable gerbils!
 We learned TONS about all the animals and asked lots of good questions on how to take care of our new pets.
It was a very exciting afternoon!

Oobleck and Slime - Liquid or Solid???

Today was such exciting afternoon! After a previous discussion on the characteristics of  solids, liquids and gases, some students were wanting to know if slime would be a solid  or a liquid. We decided we wanted to explore this further. One student was so helpful in bringing in 3 containers of slime for us to explore! Thank you to this student! Ms. McCullough decided to add in Oobleck to the experiment as well. We described both the solid and liquid characteristics of slime and oobleck then wrote a conclusion on whether it should be classified as a solid, liquid or both and explain why. Students are coming home with a labelling of caterpillars and butterfly body parts.  Students should be able to explain how the body parts help in their lives. They are also bringing hone some sheets we did while experimenting  In our “Exploring Liquids” student.
