Comparing Liquids

Today, we looked at 
4 liquids (honey, dish soap, corn syrup, olive oil )
and compared them 
to water.
We investigated each liquid and made
guesses of what 
they could be based on their 
colour,  smell, touch, how they poured and if they were transparent, translucent or opaque.
We ended our day with an exciting liquids raced!
Ask your child which liquid won the race and which were the slowest!
Tomorrow, we will learn our new vocabulary word "viscosity".

Oobleck and Slime - Liquid or Solid???

Today was such exciting afternoon! After a previous discussion on the characteristics of  solids, liquids and gases, some students were wanting to know if slime would be a solid  or a liquid. We decided we wanted to explore this further. One student was so helpful in bringing in 3 containers of slime for us to explore! Thank you to this student! Ms. McCullough decided to add in Oobleck to the experiment as well. We described both the solid and liquid characteristics of slime and oobleck then wrote a conclusion on whether it should be classified as a solid, liquid or both and explain why. Students are coming home with a labelling of caterpillars and butterfly body parts.  Students should be able to explain how the body parts help in their lives. They are also bringing hone some sheets we did while experimenting  In our “Exploring Liquids” student.
