Making Snow Crystals

As we are in the season of winter and are expecting
snow later this week,
today we looked at the book,
"The Story of Snow: The Science of Winter's Wonder".
The students were very interested as we learned
how snow crystals are formed.
We learned each snow flake forms
from a speck of dust, dirt, ash, salt, pollen, etc.
As the speck gets cold enough, water
vapor will begin to stick to it.
Six is the magic number for crystals
as that is how many branches it will sprout.
We looked at the patterns and the symmetry of snow
crystals.
We looked at many different snow crystals up close
then we got to make our own in our groups.
Here are our amazing creations!
