Making numbers with tallies

Wednesday, our wonderful grade 2's were 

leaders as we taught grade 1's how to make a number using tallies.

We used popsicle sticks as hands on tallies.

We used skip counting by fives and counting up as strategies to 

check our work.

As grade 2's were showing and explaining,

they were deepening their own understanding

and better able to express their learning.

We will use tally marks to count larger numbers,

such as the number of yellow tickets we receive.
