Studying Fall/Autumn

Mrs. Taylor and Ms. McCullough look forward to meeting everyone at the school picnic tomorrow evening!

With the first day of fall happening on Saturday, September 22, we have begun our study of this season.  Over the year, we will be exploring all 4 season, fall, winter, spring and summer.
Today, we read "The Reasons for the Seasons" and looked at the Earth's position to the sun during each of the seasons.  We talked about the changes we were noticing as we go into fall such as less daylight, leaves changing colours and falling to the ground, temperature getting colder and changes in the clothes we wear. We talked about the celebrations in fall such as Thanksgiving and Halloween. If your child celebrates any other celebrations in fall time, Ms. McCullough would love to know so please send me an email or let me know at the school picnic!
We looked at some fall leaves and sorted them by colours.  Then we looked closely at the shapes of leaves and at a chart that gave information on the names of these leaf shapes.  We then closely observed some fall leaves with a magnifying glass and used stencils or sketched them free hand.  Students did amazingly detailed sketches of these leaves.  Students will be coming home tonight with their sketches for you to see!
