Fantastic Fall Day
Today was a fantastic fall day!
We read the story, "Why Do Leaves Change Colour" by Betsy Maestro. We learned that as there is less sunlight, the chlorophyll breaks down and the green colour of leaves disappears and the leaf's other colours begin to show such as red, yellow, or orange. The tree begins to prepare for winter and the leaves change color then fall to the ground. As the leaves rot, they become nutrients in the soil for the tree.
In the afternoon, we went outside to sketch a tree during the fall season. We will sketch this same tree through all 4 of the season to see the changes it goes through.
We also used the iPads to take photos of the signs of fall.
We were even lucky enough to see a rabbit! This got us talking about the changes animals go through during the seasons such as changing colours. We will discuss this more soon!
Here are some photos of us sketching and the favorite photos students took today of the signs of fall!
